Strawberries have long been highly appealing to Portuguese consumers and have a tradition of production, yet the crop still has a limited presence in Portugal. The country is not self sufficient and imports between 16,000 and 20,000 tonnes each year. The seminar “Strawberry”, under the theme “Will there be a value chain in Portugal?”, aims to bring together the various stakeholders in the strawberry value chain (nurseries, growers, distribution and marketing companies, technicians, researchers, and other agents) to promote discussion and analysis of the sector, contributing to its revitalisation in an active, sustainable, innovative, and competitive way.
The event is organised by the National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research (INIAV, I.P.) in collaboration with Hortitool Consulting Lda. and the National Horticultural Fruit Operational and Technological Centre – Centre of Competences (COTHN-CC), and will take place on 18 March 2022 at the INIAV Auditorium in Oeiras.
The topics under discussion will address the current state of the value chain, the nursery sector (plants and varieties), and innovation and competitiveness of production at national and global scale.
The Organising Committee therefore invites all interested parties and stakeholders in the strawberry value chain to take part in this event, which will be an excellent opportunity to engage in a committed discussion about the future of the sector and to identify the main bottlenecks the value chain faces today.
